Mission of the Yellow Songbird

Mission of the Yellow Songbird A long highway road stretched its legs before me, In a place where tumble weeds were conceived, December evening chasing daylight back to morning Dusk robed in faded colors starving out the sunshine Miles put themselves between me and home With thickets of brier brambles cradled between north and south Alive with vesper choruses of tiny songbirds. A gentle tap on my front fender Roused me from hypnotic highway stupor like popping thunder I shuddered deeply as possibilities shook my soul; Maybe one of those gigantic bugs – maybe? Maybe? But when I stopped my heart seized to solve the mystery A tiny yellow songbird plastered to my grill wings still open to flight. Gentle spirit of eternal compassion touched, caressed, my wailing sorrow Then guided me to a desert tree with perfect boughs, That welcomed songs of matin mornings from a tiny bird, To lay to rest God's tiny messenger beneath his favorite tree Songbird with perfect pitch would no longer sing praise into Heaven's face. Called to the road again, tears raced down my cheeks As numb miles raced by with a litany of why in each drop Time came to take a mountain road from fertile valley to foggy ocean crest - Screaming round a sharp curve to a screeching stop Accident, I thought, of two cars only six cars ahead of me – No ordinary scene -two burned out fiery shells one atop the other! Realization, like a candle in the darkness, sent out sharp beams I would have been in that accident had not a precious songbird Given me a second chance to sing in ministry and embrace this grief; In the deepest part of my grieving heart, I know our precious God Gathered to his heart the mission of this tiniest crushed warrior Who now sings beneath God’s window in the eternal day. 5-17-22 Contest: Divine Intervention Sponsor: Chantal Anne Cooke 12/14/22 Contest: Poetry Marathon Mile 23 Sponsor: Mark Toney 30 Lines of a 30 Line Limit

Sam, all of creation moves in a mysterious choreography in harmony with the Creator's sovereign will. Sometimes we are given a glimpse into the Master plan. These moments build our faith foundation for those times when we just can't understand the reason things are the way they are. You have described so well your journey on that day of deliverance, and your journey of faith. A Fav and a blessing, dear friend ~ John

Thank you so much my dear friend! You have so eloquently expressed the a-ha moments, realizations, of this experience - God is as close as a breath of grace while leading us on highways of discovering, in breathtaking awe, mercy - a pattern in life as companions journey toward God and the Master's plan is revealed one experience at a time! Your lovely message, and fav, are a delight to my heart and a joy for my day. Sending you bunches of blessings dear friend! Happy Father's Day!!!

I so agree Valsa - things we cannot explain, the world will never understand! The world of God's miraculous is deeply imbedded in God's love for us - waiting for us to be awed by wonder. We are blessed to share this miraculous world in our poems with fellow believers. What a gift to bolster each other in our journeys. Perhaps our stories will plant a seed in a yearning heart. Would love to hear your miracles. Thank you for your beautiful message - sharing your faith. Blessings!

Len, thank you so much! Like you I love animals which made the sacrifice of this little bird so emotionally wrenching! Then to see the chain of events unfold in God's plan just took my breath away. He gave up his life, his song, so I could continue to embrace my song. I always saw so many parallels to what Jesus did for us in this experience. I am honored by your fav dear friend - honored to be able to share this story. Sending you blessings on the wings of grace.

Evelyn, thank you! Like you I love birds. Their songs enrich each day. They bring such joy and beauty blotting out the noise of freeways and sirens - remnants of Eden. It gave me great comfort to think of this little bird now singing his song for God with God smiling. Sending you many blessings on the wings of song!

Woe Sam! I would hazard to guess this May with the trophy. Every stanza is so detailed as if to place us there in each scene, to feel the compassion and loss and the realization that everything happens for a reason known to God. I am saving this to my Faves my friend. Exquisitely expressed! Blessings xxoo

Connie, thank you so much! This is one of those experiences that clearly shows God's fine hand in life especially as I think about the sequence of events. So many pieces had to come together at just the right time and in just the right place for the miracle to happen. In hindsight I am even more amazed at the orchestration of all of the moving parts. I am truly humbled by your fav with a heart full of gratitude. Chantelle's contest is a wonderful way to recall the miracle and to share the story. Thank you dear friend! Sending you blessings and hugs!

Really is difficult to know how these strange forces come into play Sam, yet they do again and again, life keeps throwing them up for us to ponder, some put them down to random chaos, others divine intervention, I really wish I knew, but the very fact they happen is undeniable and gives one hope, A fantastic piece of free verse, best of luck in the contest, cheers David

Greetings Milt! Thank you so much for your lovely message. Even after all this time, I sit in awe and wonder of these events - how they unfolded and unwrapped God's miraculous intervention on that road. The song of a bird often brings me back to that little bird and God's intervention for, I believe, that are no coincidences in God's good plan. So grateful for your wisdom and inspiring words. And, it goes without saying, consolation for there is still a tiny space of grief in my heart. Blessings to you!

Thank you so much Vicky. Every time I pass that offramp I think of the little bird and, in my heart, I know that only God's mercy, and the selfless act of God's tiny creation, could have worked this miracle of life. Truly and indeed we are blessed by our loving God. It is a wonderful comfort to carry us through life's dark nights and wilderness highways!
