"As you live Deeper in the Heart, the Mirror gets clearer and cleaner" Rumi I can get as close as I like You wouldn't, couldn't back away Though I'll become hazy Air from my lungs capable of obscuration But incapable of breathing life into you Closeness feeds on flaws An insatiable appetite in me Wishing to learn of when and why you'd look away Yet from distance I am the lure Grabbing not yours, but my own attention Impenetrable to scratches or harsh words I know you aren't even at fault Though coldly you direct attention to me Could you not know how easily I'm destroyed? I've shared every thought and word with you I exist without you, I know I do! So infrequently now do you flatter me But when you do I'm wholly immersed Like a little bird with a longed for friend We dance and you reciprocate every smile I have so much to say Though never able to believe or deny you It's coldness, pure coldness you emit Just a reflection, which is surely worse I cannot sever from this untethered tormentor Do I need to know what others see? It's not within the realm of possibility They, I , distil to just what is needed right then Embrace or reject at will For we all waltz with demons I'd see my hand in front of my face Whether or not I am actually here Each piece of information viewed separately Stitched together to try to make sense Loneliness or interaction just a distraction So I gravitate back Or so I believe Trying to look beyond opaque glass Seeking answers from a smooth surface Cruelly captivated by the likeness of a once was friend
