Midnight, Midmorn
Pleasurably aimless,
this unhurried walk
around midnight
through softly undulating,
dark-green landscape
of mist-moistened
late summer grass;
from a far-off bough
the winds carry away
the chirping
of what may have been
the first wakeful bird
of dawn, or the last
drowsy bird of the night!
