Midnight Snack Foolishness
MIDNIGHT SNACK FOOLISHNESS
From her hole to check, our spider made late night dash
She’d find some inept fly trying to do a brash
Walk on her web-of-the day.
Then she’d catch the fly, feed her kids, then sleep the night away.
After a tough day dodging grandma’s blows with The Times,
Just then spider and I both I heard the chimes.
Just started getting my slippers on
And soon by 2 a m to bed I’m gone
Moving silently and in a hurry.
Spider didn’t see me as she thought of her kids with worry
Then she saw a tasty crumb of god knows what
Lying on the floor in a mid-room spot
And decided to stop and take it home for the kids instead.
Lucky for her that grandma had already gone to bed.
Now, my instinct is not to kill but to move these guys
Out into the yard on a piece of paper of small size,
But I thought I’d give her a warning to show
How foolish her mid-floor stop had been, though.
I pursed my lips and blew gently on her and she started to run
Back to her hole where she had begun.
A peaceful end to the events of the day :
Grandma’s now in bed snoring away,
She has killed nothing from the wild,
But I’ll dream of spider’s foolish stop to feed her child.
