Mermaid's Flight: Collaborative Sea Sonnet

Mermaid's Flight Poseidon drew up from the salty sea, a silver splash of wave from Earth to Moon. Sailor appealing Neptune's pride of three, gazed down fantasizing mermaid's kiss soon. Great sea-storm surge may eternally faze, sweet paradise in lonely sailor's dreams. Then lifted is she from the coral maze, held in riptides and pressed in boiling streams. Then up he rides on his seahorse untamed, and captures her mad from his winded ride. From dark sea depth's hold, sweet mermaid unnamed, in sailor's arms, Neptune can not abide. He named the sprite and kissed her full and well, from heaven's grasp he gained the star that fell. By Robert J. Lindley & Edlynn Nau © May 12, 2016

Full marks to two worthy and talented collaborators! I like how you worked on this one; we used to do this in art classes...one starts, the other takes over, and back and forth. Thank you for the opening info ... and the maths:) Regards // paul

Thank you so much Paul! I'm glad you read both our collaborative and my solo with the same two lines. Robert will also pick two of his lines and write in his style too. Fun to really collab on one poem together & turn around and write two solos from the same poem. We end up with four poems with this type of collaboration. Robert is in the middle of a move now but he plans to do his soon!

We wanted to try two! We did one as a double sonnet that answered each other but allowed us our own style! While we agree that it is the same theme, it isn't a REAL collaboration unles we have to bring two styles into one in on one poem. That was our attempt here for the second Collab. Interesting process. Gosh it is nice to see you Mike!

SORRY MY FRIEND, FOR BEING SO LONG TO GET TO THIS. FAMILY FIRST.. This was pleasure to create, discuss and eventually write with you and your ideas were brilliant my friend as well as your verses. I truly love the formula we used alternating verses .

Ha ha! It was interesting because we sure did not know what direction it would take. None of the story or ending was AT ALL planned. Fun indeed! Hope your Mom is doing better!

Thank you Robert Lindley for all your hard work with: vocabulary lists, Sea lists, the meticulous maths, text and notes back and forth, and edits. All this, at a time your Mom is hospitalized. It was fun and I enjoyed your very professional approach. It is almost time here in NorCal for the Mermaids to surface in our beautiful lake!
