Still fully awake, I closed my eyes from the morning light. Fear for him had kept me from sleeping through the night. I worried that he would believe all of those who had lied, those who told him it had been his fault his father died. Oppressive is his world because he sings only the blues. All he tells me is, "You can't walk in another man's shoes." He's sullen and dejected; width and breadth of disdain. I reach out but he turns away, immersed in his own pain. I've tried everything I can to pull him out of his foul mood but nothing has made a difference, he continues to brood. His melancholy blue aura has encroached upon my heart. There's no escape from these emotions tearing us apart. I can't take away the memories or the burdens he bears. I wish my love could strip him of the ash cloth he wears. If painting could remove the frown from his forlorn face, I'd brush away his tears and hold him close in my embrace. He used to write beautiful love songs, then sing them to me, but now he plays and sings the blues in sad haunting melody. Depression wove her bitter fingers around his miserable soul, and left him without desire to be free of her ceaseless control. ...............................
