Pause a brief moment, stop and think, now go back in time, back to a time before cars came along, back to when you just had radio. An age when one knew their neighbour and travel was only as necessary. The village bobby always knew where to look and crime was just off the petty kind. A time without the telly (quite amusing) when families truly communicated. No films or programmes putting ideas into heads increasing the crime rate of much more terrible crimes. Newspapers telling us what they think we want to hear intruding into people's private space then, showing their own distorted view of who we are. Bringing to our attention all that is happening. Now we come to the Crux, the heart of things without these advances, some so miraculous would we be better off without them? I leave you, my reader to decide.

Great write. Being in the media industry myself, I wonder the same thing, info overload and all the opt-in breaches of our privacy with social media. Then again, we wouldn't be here sharing all this wonderful work and art. Dilemma...

Excellent question. WE would have people dying sooner from diseases. But at the same time, their lives might be far more meaningful of what they would be living! As much as I hate things like cell phones and TMI on internet, I think I still prefer today's world. I am too busy to be chatting with neighbors and I am a television addict. Me oh my!!!Good poem!

The good old days were great but....Without modern technology I wouldn't be here writing with so many other talented poets. I might not even be writing if I wasn't being challenged here. I wish there was a middle. One thing is for sure, we spent more time doing things together without children and teenagers completely caught up in some game or chatting like they are hypnotized. Even adults for that matter can't let go of their cell phones. I have a feeling they are missing out of so much.

- in some ways I would love to go back to earlier times when we had simpler needs and more family time - letters were written rather than e mails and people would communicate verbally other rather than text etc but I would miss stuff like the internet - guess I want the best of both worlds! Hugs Jan x
