Man Who Would Be God

Once upon a time in a previous universe, machines began repairing themselves, much faster than their makers ever could, so the creators just left them to it Of course every now and then the machines made minute mistakes, Most of which were quickly spotted, and rejected But on rare occasions, some anomalies made it past the screening process, and actually turned out to be most beneficial, eventually becoming dominant amongst fellow machines, a serendipitous side effect, said the creators So this hit and miss, trial and error process was allowed to proceed and worked brilliantly up until the point where the machines reached a pinnacle of perfection, meaning they simply could not improve upon themselves in machine form So it was decided by their makers to fuse together with them, in a last ditch effort to break the technological impasse, For by now they had become completely fixated on gaining omnipotence, And so it came to pass over epochs of time after endless experimentation, they finally achieved immortality, and godlike status But as more time passed, this also turned into a living nightmare, when upon realising, they had now achieved everything that would ever be possible, and were permanently stuck at the apex of eternity This made them inconceivably desperate and horrified, knowing they had condemned themselves to immortality and omnipotence, which by now had become so routine it turned into a living, boring, endless nightmare They computed the only logical conclusion to end this living hell was to erase everything they had ever achieved by destroying the universe And so it happened to great effect, they imploded their whole universe into a singularity, killing themselves in the process But what happened next was totally random and unforeseen the singularity rebounded, and exponentially exploded forming a brand new cosmos, coalescing into primordial particles forming galaxies, stars, planets, and eventually early life forms, on one blue sphere called earth As eons went by on this unique world, a new highly creative species of creatures serendipitously evolved, and over time through trial and error, hit and miss experiments learned how to build machines and computers, and are now thinking about merging with AI You see where this is going, don’t you! omnipotence is the one inevitability of our universe But of course we all know this hypothesis cannot be right? # which is worse hoping you will never die ~ or to live knowing you can’t # By David Kavanagh

Their Bible is born. As the war machine keeps turning. Im remind of Warpigs, and then there's a melocolly feel, that they like any spices are slaves to their creators. Merging with AI, inevitable! A winner indeed!

Makes sense to me Anaya, probably as much or more than the accepted view, at least here I try delve into the reason for creation, with a behind the scenes perspective of how and why a universe might come about, perhaps we ourselves are the integral link that brings it all together, cheers David

Thank you Edward I’m delighted with the placement in your contest, I know it’s in the extreme, but hey if doing fatalism may as well go all out, cheers David

Who knows Andrea, AI is almost upon us, we better give them a run for their money, cheers David

David, that is a verse that is not only profound but also provokes thought. Your poem, with its intriguing yet imaginative ideas, was enjoyable to read. Indeed, God has endowed us with imagination and intelligence, but if we don't put them to good use, they will wither away and die. However, I believe that you have succeeded magnificently in writing this poem by hitting the bull's eye. The combination of your vivid imagery and sophisticated language has a more spellbinding effect. On your verse.

Thank you Lasaad, I’m delighted people like yourself enjoyed reading this, and are not offended by my seemingly preposterous imagination, but we do live in a time where computers and machines are relatively nascent, AI is most definitely on the horizon, fusing together with it looks inevitable soon after, I mean what is our ultimate goal, cheers David

Enjoyable and engaging poetry, David. I like the imagination (although a possibility of being real) and the creativity in your work. Tha ending made it thought-provoking and thus interesting to me. We know so little and think we know so much, life (and probably death) is a learning experience. Thanks for sharing from you creative mind, Bill

Imagination Bill is all I have to go on, I like to ponder the imponderable, then search for consequences, the time scales involved here are vast, Death to most people is the end, I think it may contain the very answer on how the universe overcomes eternity, thank you so much for stopping by, cheers David

The best is knowing that your creator knows how to keep you interested in life. All that we can see now is fatalism….scary stuff. Loved your poem. Excellent questions at the end.

You read my mind Kim, why on earth are we gifted with imagination if we are not meant to use it, A creator I’m guessing must also always have new things to do, to keep eternity fresh, maybe that’s where we come into play, cheers David

Brilliant, David. Nowhere near as far fetched as some might think. Like the man said, ‘I’ll be back.’

Inevitability sometimes stares us in the face Terry, and that man keeps coming back, looking a little different but still comes back nonetheless, I just like to get people thinking beyond the box, some will get it, others won’t, thank you so much for stopping by, cheers David

A very thought provoking verse David, it seems like it's happening now, are we just going around in circle's, so many questions but not many answers. Google fired one of their researchers because he claimed AI had feelings, frightening stuff. Good luck in the contest, Tom

Heya Tom, the cyclical universe theory is definitely one that is becoming more popular with scientists at the moment, I just put a fatalistic element to it, as I like stretching the boundaries of imagination every now and then, without trying to offend peoples genuine faith, AI will probably be a form of evolution, at some point in the future, but feelings are definitely a long way off, thank you so much for stopping by, cheers David
