Magdalena Number 6

“MAGDALENA #6” today I returned home from work and hung my coat up on the coat rack. I took off my hat and set it on the hook right next to it. Magdalena came to the door and asked me if I had had a hard day. she kissed me and said, "Don't worry papa, you're home now. You relax, dinner is about to be served." I looked at her and asked her to step back. "Is that a new apron?" I asked. "Sure is. I just got it today. Do you like it?" "Of course I do but it pales in comparison to my Magdalena." she turns red and asks, "Why are you so good to me, even after all these years?" I pull her close and kiss her. "Because you've always been the love of my life." she smiles and confirms it with acceptance. "There's one more thing papa. Come to the table." I walk to the dining room and they're they all sit with smiles unlike anything I've ever seen. "Everyone is here. Cadmus and Jupiter got in this morning and Eddie, Robert and Addis this afternoon." our children, along with our grandchildren, get up and greet me. tears fall from my eyes as I kiss each one. as Magdalena finishes the table, I talk with my boys and my baby girl. finally, we are all seated. I grab Magdalena's hand to the right and smile. my family is together. we share a love that fought through hatred and resistance. I never knew I could love someone as much as Magdalena and as we look at our family, we know those years of trial were stepping stones to our final happiness. all which gave us both our very purpose for existence.
