Love's Death
A simple poem from long ago
I came to you on Winter's day
And tried to take the pain away
With tenderness and warm desire
I tried to light an ashen fire
But, you were cold to my embrace
Your empty heart an empty space
Each day I felt its chill again
From darker storm that's moving in
I've seen the sun, watched it fall
Heard the sound when a heart grew small
When love has gone, left no trace
Yesterdays were another place
I live with shadows at my side
And stay in darkness, where they hide
I'll cross the bridge where love divides
To still my heart, for love has died
