Loved and Lost

How I recall empathic tastes Of winter frost, And the bite of winds that railed against The trees, Dispersed with such unease The deafening cries of those Who loved and lost. Mimicking in their jackboot stance Upon the shore, In the veil of mist, a carpet rolling in The dawn, The kettle whistle so forlorn, The silenced tongues of those Who loved no more.
