Love Yourself

I was sitting at a conference filled with writers for the Lord Though our writing styles were different Our hearts were in one accord As the speaker talked I listened Then something caught my eye I saw a cross up on the wall where the Lord was about to die I really tried to concentrate on what the speaker said But Christ was looking straight at me And before He bowed His head His eyes full of compassion began to fill with tears He know I had been struggling to love myself for years Before He died He said to me You must learn to love yourself as much as I love you And my Father up above After Jesus said these words His Spirit left the earth But He made sure He made it clear Just how much I was worth Still sometimes I find myself not being kind to me Then I think of that one night when Jesus made me see That I'm a special masterpiece and I'm precious in His sight When all I see is darkness I'm surrounded by His light Written in 1987 (this is a true story)
