Expensive carpet, furniture of oak - I glanced around the spacious drawing room, And stood beside the ornate mantelpiece; The atmosphere was one of brooding gloom. Her father sneered, dismissed me with a snort (although I’d dressed as smartly as I could); Her mother begged him, ‘Dear, our Jane’s in love.’ And Jane was silent, feared it was no good. This poem brings a smile! Good storyline too, though I think it would be better if it were longer with more description. There is a good, genuine feeling of the time here.

This could be a very interesting chat this lad is about to go through! I'm glad I never had that talk with my wife's father, he really liked me from the start, it was her mother that had to warm up to me! I really enjoyed reading this amazing poem here this evening! What a lovely piece, Great work!!

ahhh, you did very very well with this one. I have not even pondered yet what had happened. But I too got the sense that it was about the couple being in love. well, I am caught up now, finally. time to head home!
