Lost In Time Part One
I entered the forest
unsure of how i got there
one step within,
I found it useless to try to escape-
to find my way out
I had little memory
only leaves, tree trunks,
the earth perpetually shaded
from the light of God
there were voices
animal noises-
I could not determine
from which direction they came
the buzz of insects
a mildly threatening cacophany
underfoot were leaves, small branches,
other indecypherable forms
of small death
I was alone
I was lost
and I knew not how I'd gotten here
Didn't I once walk the bright streets
of a mighty city?
Hadn't I once traveled on paved roads,
companioned by other travelers?
was there once a destination for me?
how had I become lost in this dark, dank,
forest of fear?
oceans, beaches, tall buildings,
blue skies, friendly smiles-
were these demented dreams?
which is real?
which is sanity?
why can't I distinguish them any more?
