Locked In

“How are you feeling today?” “Trapped.” They don’t hear and set about their tasks with constant moans: this and that, idle chat I can't bear their drones “Enough!” They don’t hear, don’t care: I’m locked in this shell awake, aware, paralysed, unable to move or talk since the pain burned through my brain. I lie in this bed wired to a fear-filled machine, moments clicked a switch flicked, my locked-in scream... “Don’t do it. Please. I’m still here!” ‘How are you today?' © Janette Fisher 08.02.17

A riveting write. Attentiveness and compassion ought to be prerequisites for any and every employee in healthcare, or at least this poem a must read.
