Listen

Do you hear a rustle as you walk among the trees? Do your ears detect a crackle as you feel the autumn breeze? In amongst the birdsong are there murmurs in the lane? Do you feel a little something that your senses can't explain? Is there a ripple as you roam along that woodland way? Is it coming from above Perhaps it's hard to say? As you walk the forest's path Is there whisper to be heard? Do you think your mind is playing tricks? Does it make you feel absurd? Then, don't worry - you're not going mad It's the chatter of the leaves Designed to make you wonder But it's there - if you believe They have a lot to talk about as they see and hear it all So listen as you walk along especially in the fall Sometimes it's jolly chit-chat as they busily prepare to change from greens to yellows Then jump with daring flair Sometimes it is gossip about a creature or a beast that they've spotted in the clearing and report it's heading east Often there's a mutter or soft disgruntled groan from the last leaf left on the branch when he finds himself alone And there can be a little cursing from the youngsters in the crew But you shouldn't worry too much as it's rarely about you
