Liquid Ice

For so long I’ve tread this water Every once in a while As I think of what I’m not A cold current drags me under Freezing my lungs Every once in a while As I think of your love Warm currents push me up Far above these crashing waves But as this gentle sea turns to the sea of reality And warm currents disappear This water turns to liquid ice Rushing down my throat Filling up my lungs Pulling me down Deeper and darker Till the surface disappears And not even your love can bring me back up As I’m doomed to sink My entire body suffers shock And there’s nothing left to shake me alive My limbs too tired to move against these waves Every push, every stroke brings no change The sting of this liquid, frozen harshness Will hopefully someday turn these dead arms numb I close my eyes, embrace the cold And I don’t even realize I’ve stopped swimming I’m descending

Just when the world (water) seems cold, Tayler, spring comes round to warm us. Please don't "stop swimming." You have too much talent to share! Love, Carolyn
