Like Sleeping
LIKE SLEEPING
could I feel good again
like sleeping with
brown lights pooling
behind pulled shades
fading out this hot
humid day lying on
my side facing plastered
secured womb wall
until…
the loom outside the door
tightens my panic in these
crisp white sheets
of total denial
so…
standing slowly naked
with stomach fetid sick
I crack the door to
blinding shards of light
trying to place my mind
in the smell of sunshine
wrenched from undersea
roomdrowned out fear
feeling bad as I thought
it would be probing
into my bee-stung
eyes without tears
he says: please don’t
lie or try to disguise…
guilt ridden I leave
my shaded bedroom
stepping into reality
cold and numb
like sleeping
