Like Riding a Bicycle

Certain things you don’t forget; They somehow get ingrained. No matter when you learned them, Deep inside they have remained. Like how to burp a baby, Swim a lap or sew a stitch; The skillset’s there, so you can Pull them off without a hitch. The classic case in point, I guess, Is how to ride a bike, Which most of us were taught when young, Quite possibly a tyke. Though many years may slip away Before we ride again, We hop right in the saddle, Like we first did way back when. And after just a wobble To make sure that we are steady, We find that after months or years, One blink and we are ready. They say it’s hard to teach An older dog a brand-new trick, But if we’re lucky, lots of what we’ve learned Has seemed to stick.

Like breathing air we all must dare to give it one more shot. For what we've learned throughout our lives we hope we ain't forgot. So when the morning sun comes up we get up out of bed. For if we don't appreciate gods gift of a new day. We might as well be dead.

Another great poem. Love this poem. Perhaps I do still have some old skills that I learned in the past. It's just my failing memory that keeps tripping me up. Great write!

the ability to ride is still with me after all these years but somehow the bike seat and my bottom just can't get along anymore. Uncle Mike

dear, I thought this would be true of the guitar playing I took up in my 40's. I practiced like the DICKENS for three years straight. WEnt back to it ten years later to try it out, just recently and could hardly remember ANYthing. I felt horrible!!! but yes, a bike hopefully I could still do.
