Life and Growth
Mark taught the kids
that it was fun to pick up the cans
and roll them along the floor
of the supermarket Isle's
Sarah screamed at the kids all day
the kids long past listening
Sarah constantly attacked Mark
you're useless were's your brains
from girl friend to girl friend
Mark went
Mark was quick to bad mouth Sarah
Sarah was quick to bad mouth Mark
The kids grew to have no respect
the girls grew to get pregnant young
the boys grew up to do time in jail
the doctors gave a reason
the kids have attention deficit disorder
it's not your fault they have an illness
Yet when I took my son
to the supermarket
He was not allowed to run wild
he was not allowed to roll cans
down the supermarket Isles
he was not allowed to demand lollies
If he spoke with insults about other people
he had better have a good reason
if somebody punched him
I could understand his anger
but running people down
without a good reason
would have gained a reprimand
Behaviour is taught
Respect is taught
Kids copy what we do
if your attitude allows you to steal
your child learns to steal
yet the child also has a mind
sometimes the child will disagree
with the behaviour of the adult
and learn to do the opposite
taught to steal
the child will decide and learn
to be honest
taught to hate the child will learn to laugh
life is not black and white
you are a big influence on your child
but you are not the only one
Parents, teachers, friends, strangers
and the child themselves
all come together in the creation of a life
sometimes we copy
and sometimes we think for ourselves
