Let Me Not Be So Distracted

Let me not be so distracted by the nay-sayers For whom everything seems to be doomed, With those who rely on holier-than-thou prayers Help me not to allow myself to be consumed. May I find myself giving out optimistic strokes Looking for the good even when things are sad, I want to take an Anne Frank approach, folks, Even if things turn out to be unbearably bad. Truthfully, things aren’t as devious as many think, Just because some things aren’t going their way Our country is not teetering on disaster’s brink, Save that cliched trophe for a more gloomy day. As I see it, we’ve had far too much distraction, Polarization, divisiveness, unadulterated lying, Leaders relying on their own self-satisfaction, Unwilling to consider other ways worth trying. Can we not consider the outside possibility That we have relied on purveyors of fake news Who brought us many rumors told willy-nilly With badly skewed and worthless views?

Sadly, this is the way of it "Polarization, divisiveness, unadulterated lying, Leaders relying on their own self-satisfaction," So sad but incredibly true.

Just reading in this morning's newspaper how online crackpots are causing mental health problems among America's teenagers. It appears, "Social Studies" are no longer social . . . . . .

There certainly is a lot of merit to what you wrote, Rico. Social media is rampant with fakes and falsehoods. And how can we expect teenagers to sort it all out when we have trouble doing it?

Everything can be a distraction, if we allow it, Milt. I will not do that with the negativity of some who post their bitterness and rancor to annoy us. When it's class vs crass... class always wins.

I couldn't agree more. I have rarely used the block feature, but I'm going to do so. I don't want these people cluttering up the comment section of my poems. Class always trumps crass! Thanks for your thoughts, Lin.
