Lest We Forget

Leaves change and then fall, Trees once lush turn bare. We see this cycle happen year after year after year. But what if the trees were communities, families, friends -- full of joys, dreams plans. Along comes a war, cold and fierce, much like the winter that's lurking near. Men and women unite for a cause so dear, Protecting their families, the victims, their peers. Friends and family are now soldiers, and alike the leaves, Are leaving their lives behind to fight for peace. They fought with their might and fought so hard, But many soldiers fell, the winds were harsh. But alas, their effort helped their cause, And the bitter times came to a pause. As winter passes and on comes the spring, Again grows the communities and their joys and dreams. Joys and dreams are not free, therefore we must decree: Lives were lost, we must keep the debt, for this cause we must NEVER forget.
