Left Behind
My vessel sailed upon the morn,
And joined the endless, sparkling sea,
Though I slept soundly, unaware
Alas, she could not wait for me
I woke to find myself alone,
So empty both in mind and heart;
And though I sought to fill their hold,
My soul, from me, seemed to depart
In sadness, I then looked upon the last,
Of salty waters sinking towards the sun,
And lo within the fading glow, I glimpsed,
The trailing remnants of her skyward mast
Thus, ache that longed then to retrieve,
The ship that sailed on without me,
Could only wave in parting sign,
Farewell to what should have been mine.
