Leave the Keys

His lips melt on mine. Shaking- Shuddering- Soft- Under my hands He folds. I no longer care How exactly this game started. Only how it is supposed to end. Warm like the sun Whose gaze he Has shied away from, He lies curled up In my arms And he looks So Delicate In my sheets- In his sleep… We both knew This day Was destined to happen. Quiet, I slide his curly locks Out of his face- I want to remember Why we began Before I write The epilogue Of our Story. The mirror reflects My face back at me- I still wish I could be The man He needed me to be- The man he said he saw In our photographed reflection.... He stirs. Doesn’t wake. I smile. Slip away- Leave the keys On the table Behind me.
