Leave the Children Alone

It is a well-known fact, said Aristotle and many a priest that threaten the inferno, ‘Give me a child before the age of seven’ Today society taking the old ways to a new height ‘And I’ll give you a programmable mind set.’ life, now a highway, from the earliest age a one-track road littered along the hard shoulder with broken down expressions, when to fuel a rapid growing band of experts, driven along the assemble line of psychoanalyst, a vital part of the skulduggery? Striving for intellect is not in everyone’s script where all are pressurized to achieve, and many children are having to forgo that precious period of life, for the sake of another’s ego. © Harry J Horsman 2022

Great poem my friend.Back in my youth parents understood how important it was to raise their kids and as well teach them principles like honesty, avoiding drinking and drugs whilst seeking ever more education. Reading being a primary activity to advance in life. Sad what our culture has become, I go. A favorite my friend.

society went downhill when women were forced to work and children were bought up by minders, their role models just earning their crust too as were the parents who left them there. that's all they know, money, money, money.

There is so much truth in these lines, Harry. I have often had thought similar to these. Childhood is indeed very precious, and there is much more to life than making money.

Kids today face so much pressure to be this or that, or do this or that. It seems like there is no space for them to just be kids. Thank you for a poem that raises that point.

We sane adults cannot stand idly by, as our children are brainwashed by creeps. If we don’t take the bull by the horns, who will? Action is needed badly, Harry. Children being used as pawns in political gamesmanship. They need the world behind them. I do mean all of us. Such a thoughtful poem..... Panagiota xxxx

Couldn't agree with you more, Harry. Such a sad development. The West is no better than the East Germans and Japanese were (reg. sports) in the 50's and 60's. Pity.

Yes, let children be children. Some parents pressure their kids to do things they themselves FAILED at years before! Very expressive piece, Harry! Janice

Parents do push their children but my son taught me an important lesson when he was thirteen. At the end of Junior school, he was a deputy head boy and top of the class in every subject, he walked away that night with every possible prize. The day he started high school told me that he would attain a university pass but not study as he did. He passed 2 degrees and has a successful business with another wonderful young man. He is a wonderful son, I am so proud of him. blessings Harry, Jennifer

Children are pressurized much to be achievers. In the end they are left, over stressed and frustrated. Leave them alone. Allow them lighter moments of life . A mentally healthy younger generation is the need of the time. Wise observations, noble friend....

We see it all the time Harry, children groomed for stardom and success from a young age and robbed of their childhood. Tom

I am very grateful 5 of my grandkids are growing up in the country, playing in the woods, homeschooling, and the older ones are reading voraciously. A good, simple life for them.

An intelligent argument. We are spoiling our children and expect a peaceful world.

You have wonderful insight, Harry. There are too many outlets these days for children to become involved in things other than having fun. Pushed by parents and peer pressure to do more, be better. It robs them of what precious little time they have to be an innocent child.

Wonderful piece Harry. I wholeheartedly agree. You have made an exceptional point that is undeniable to the reader. The Chidren today have such a difficult time with pressure to achieve, it robs them of their individualism and sanity. Your in depth writings always make sense Harry. God bless you my friend...
