Laugh At Your Own Foibles Before Others Do

If you can laugh at the crazy antics of yourself, Instead of sitting on the shelf, You will find others will be laughing with you. Instead of at you. If you do this and don't hide your mistakes, You will have no fear of snakes, As you climb up ladders, You could not climb by sitting on the shelf, An inferior version of self. So seize the day, And come out to play, Come down off the shelf, And find your better self.

Hi David... I love this poem. I love it's message, it's meter and it's levity. I found your poem and this site today, while trying to find a quote from a short book - "If you knew me, Would you still like me" by Eugene Kennedy... In it, he says that to laugh uproariously at ones own foibles can one of the most liberating experiences in life... I look forward to read more of your poetry and sharing some of my own on this site. bassistchrist a.k.a Dave

Thanks Victor. Now I just need to heed my own advice. I am in the process of getting a poetry project off ground at moment. A fundraiser for those affected by floods and slips in NZ, A poetry and music festival. Support is growing so it might actually happen and become regular event. Small scale but every little helps and hopefully politics and ego's will not play a part. very best regards David

Nice to hear from you Jan. Weather here is unpredictable. Cold one night hot the next. They say cloud cover or lack of it influences night temperature. I do like winter sunshine though. Regards David in NZ
