Sunlit rays illuminate the Moon,
intensifying Her gilded glow.
And She shimmers like a gold doubloon
reflected, where rippled waters flow.
She adopts an aura when it's time
to perform Her celestial ascent.
And like a Goddess, She starts Her climb,
featured in the night's gala event.
An ebony curtain, pierced by stars,
ushers in the beauty of the night.
And a red tinge tints the planet Mars;
as Venus unveils Her hidden light.
The birds surrender the night to bats,
snatching skittish moths right from the air.
Rats seek shelter from night's feral cats,
and shifting shadows seem self-aware.
Darkness swallows remnants of the day;
imposing itself upon the night.
And color silently fades away
amidst the last vestiges of light.
