Las Vegas

Icy branches Crack in rhythm Snap, pop, pop. Laughing limbs swing Unawares. Hate strikes. Bodies Lie crumpled. Eagles soar Then dive. Stiffened wings are Vultures carrion. Bodies lie Trampled, Insides torn outside.

Blessings and congratulations on your win, Kathleen - nicely done! I have found so much beauty, catharsis and healing in writing (and reading) dark poetry - going to those places in my spirit where those dark things lay is not easy, but taking those experiences and hurts and turning them to something beautiful, (poetry), contains SO much power in healing and purging those negativities. Keep up the great work - we will change peoples' minds about "dark" subject matter! :-)

I truly appreciate your comments. Yes, the darkness needs to be uncovered just as the light invites celebration. So happy that you too have found catharsis and peace through writing. Very best, Kathy

Concise but profound comment on the brutality of humanity, Kathleen! Janice

Good to see you posting again, Kathy...albeit concerning such a tragedy! Why do they feel so compelled to do it....and why are guns and ammunition so readily available? Your poem, like the killing bullets, makes a powerful and shocking impact!! Not a pleasant subject to write about but it is important that someone, like yourself, does so; only by confronting evil can we hope to finally overcome. My very warmest regards as always, Kathy. Your friend. :) john P.s Nice to see you back!

Hi John Your validation of the value ofconfronting horror means a lot. Why is it that lots of people pay money to see violence on the screen but do not want to confront it in reality. I'm just the opposite. I stay away from (most) violence on the screen. However when writing, there's s part of me that needs to address it. I love the way you can write such beautiful poetry yet there's always a deeper level or meaning. I was reading the tribute to your friend yesterday. Your very good friend, Kathy
