Lady Jane In Waiting
She sits in the silence
of the long and lonely quiet of afternoon
thinking the sunlight
once gave light to the warm spring moon
but the evening yields shadows
of cold, dark memories gone by
and the lingering illusions
quickly blind the September skies.
Would that the world
could see her in springtime
when lovers and dreamers
still warmed the heart’s fire with wine
once enraptured by blossoms of Eastertide.
Now alone, she frowns at the emptiness
that life leaves a loneliness scheme
while drawn deep in her heart
the illusion of youth still remains
as the eyes and the body
tremble with unanswered questions like wind and rain.
Caught in the whirlwind
of continual change and peaceful unrest
she ponders with fear
of completing and failing life’s tests.
Would that she could break free
and cling solely to life for a short time more
but for now
she sits in the hush waiting, waiting…
