Author's Notes: This Double Dactyl write, "King Vlad the Greatest," doubles as a terse, poignant polemic poem with a similar message I've touched on before "nerve-wise" with two of my previously posted gems on Vladimir Putin last year, to wit: "King Vlad Redux -- Second Cold War" and "King Vlad." I believe that current world events, with the ongoing Russian Adventurism since last year initiated in the Crimea and eastern Ukraine (reminiscent of the former Soviet days and times), should make it abundantly clear the negative and reprehensible course that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has chosen for his country to follow. He's clearly a dictator and certainly not a democrat at all -- and not one iota of freedom and democracy will ever be part of his mental and psychological make-up. His lies and perfidy, and those of his political henchmen are on ample display for the Free World to see and to experience first hand as our 21st century-world continues to march toward a Second Cold War. As I mentioned in my previous Author's Notes about my first poem entitled, "King Vlad," from 2014, the freedom that we all have as poets and writers would be greatly restricted, if not, nonexistent -- if we all lived in Putin's "New Russia." My answer as a free writer and poet should be obvious: No Thanks!! Long Live Freedom and Democracy!!  (Gary Bateman - August 20, 2015) (Double Dactyl)

As always an informative write here Gary. I so enjoy your work and notes. All we can do is pray his power is taken from him and he never gets a chance to become what we all fear. Always wishing You and Ingrid, freedom and safety. "Let freedom ring!"....Sharon

Amen Sharon!! He, "Putin, intends to bring his new nationalist Russia along a road filled with rage and ruin as he hopes to return to the glory of the old Soviet Union while starting a Second Cold War to challenge the primacy of the West and its shared values of freedom and democracy. He is doomed to failure but will hurt many countries and people during his mindless foray. Best Always, Gary

Greed for power suffocates the voice of liberty. Nothing beats democracy. Enjoyed this poem, and thank you for the most informative notes that accompany it. // paul

Thanks Paul for your most wonderful and very perceptive words here!! My philosophical heroes are like Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, to name a few. Vladimir Putin certainly bespeaks the horrified tradition of former failed Soviet leadership dating back to the days of Lenin and Stalin and all of misery, purges, jailing, and death. I agree with you absolutely: " Nothing beats democracy"!! Amen!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Hi G!A very powerful Double Dactyl poem, youve crafted here about King Vlad, my dear friend Gary. Excellent piece!Very beautifully written. Just brilliant!I always read your nice notes, theyre very helpful always for sure. And I do agree with you about all that you wrote in your notes about Vladimir V. Putin. All of it!And yes, Long live freedom and democracy! You're doing great G, with this form and all the others you're writing with, yes, you should try the Quatern sometimes and the Kyrielle too. They get quite easier once you start using them for awhile, G. I was thinking that perhaps sometimes in the future you'd like to write a Double Dactyl, about Edgar Allan Poe and King Ludwig II of Bavaria.Just an idea!:) Golden pen!A 7 + Fav! Sending love n' prayers to you and Ingrid!Take good care of each other now. All the best to you always, G! Wishing you a very lovely weekend! In His light!God bless you always!:)D.

Hello "D"!! Thanks for your detailed read here King Vlad and for the 7 + FAV!! I will look into doing a Quatern for sure and perhaps a Kyrielle. Like you, I have multiple projects I'm always involved in, including my short stories now. I may consider Poe and King Ludwig II as you've mentioned for DD poems. I know I'm planning a German specialty poem here later on Till Eulenspiegel from the 14th Century. (This jester-like, clown figure was known well from a town close to where we live here in Germany.) So much to write about for sure. Best Wishes Always "D" Dear One!! Gary
