Katydid

A katydid stopped at my door. Wedge of green gossamer But something more. I angled to get a closer look. Intrusive I fear was I. He quickly me forsook. Off to call at another door Winged wisp of wonder On a neighborly autumn tour.

Thanks for asking, Debbie. It's a member of the cricket family, but doesn't look like a cricket. Enter "katydid" into your search engine and click on "true katydid." That's the kind that came to my door. The poem, like its namesake, is a wisp of a thing, but it was fun to write.

really neat poem... It takes you to that autumn day and I could even smell it.. It is so impressive because it is so effective with so few words

G'day Paul... interesting write on an interesting insect. These fellas often rest on our flywire door creating no harm... not like their black cousins who sit under our bedroom window and serenade us all night. Thank you Paul - Lindsay

I always learn from you, and not only about poetry. What is a "flywire door"? I think it must what we in the states call a "screen door." As always, thanks for stopping by, Lindsay. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Paul..lovely little write for those very noisy insects. When there are a lot of them they can almost chase me inside. They love to hide in my ferns.

Thank you, Janet. I may have romanticized Katydids somewhat, but I suppose there's little harm in that (though I hope they don't feast on your ferns). All the best.
