Just Rain
Its been dry now for months,
lawns and gardens, a mess.
Yes, its sunny, its bright,
but we couldn't care less.
The earth needs rain
to replenish her soul.
This early summer weather
has taken its toll.
All day there's been cloud.
A promise unspoken.
We need a good downpour.
Our dry earth is broken.
I hear the leaves whisper,
the clouds bounty, released.
A temporary reprieve,
our dry spell has ceased.
Rain ! Just rain !
Soak the earth, long and deep,
and with the sound of the rainfall
I'll be lulled to sleep.
