Just Leave the Sixties Behind - For Once and For All

Shout it out loud I'm black and I'm proud I use Afro-Sheen to keep my hair clean... Thirty years old, YOU're over the hill I know, I'M enlightened I drop acid and mescaline pills Plus, I never miss a chance to 'off a pig' They're like 'blue meanies,' man, you dig?... Ugh! It all sounds SO SIXTIES today ~ Tired cliches, needless to say

You are correct my friend but the pollution is much worse today, I agree with the sexual revolution, the drugs and Timothy Leary LSD. We were lab rats for the ones bringing in all the sin, and mind altering drugs. Now its the deadly poitions(drugs) the pharmaceautical companies are dishing out and the Canabis that you can go to your nearby store and purchase. Every era has its created downside unfortunately some of us fell victim to it including myself. So we live and learn and teach our children right from the mistakes we made and hope the next generation learns from the past. Peace my brother ooops that was from the sixties. lol Love your wit my friend, and I agree with all you said...

You are one magnanimous fellow, Michael... As for me, yes, there was some good music back then. I'm not so sure about the pollution. Lake Michigan's Chicago shores, in fact, were a cesspool of dead alewives in 1969 and 1970. Beaches were closed both summers... At any rate, I feel that the decline of the Church, the sexual 'revolution,' the proliferation of mind-altering drugs, and the white liberals' celebration of violent black exploitation and ignorance all combined to make the '60's the harbinger of what we face now in America. ~ Just 'sayin'

I loved the sixties, gw. I think your poem takes a very, very narrow look. Those were my military service years, the years my children were born, and my early college years. I suppose I didn't see what you saw, but I'm glad I didn't!

Perhaps your military service and the birth of your children kept you from seeing how this country embraced the 'sexual revolution,' dropped religion big-time, turned to LSD for 'travel,' and feted vulgar thugs like Eldridge Cleaver, Stokely Carmichael, H.Rap Brown, et al. in (Leonard Bernstein's and others') Manhattan penthouses. What a display of narcissm and self-indulgence. Sgt. Barry Saddler -- 'The Ballad of the Green Berets' -- was the exception, unfortunately. I call 'em as I see 'em, Milt.

I agree that it was the pivot point…

Oh, I just keep reading articles about how 'wonderful' the sixties were! Talk about selective memory! ... I find that decade to be pivot point for where we find ourselves now in America, i.e., dazed and confused, kind of like Jimi Hendrix... :) gw
