Just An Old Man
He's just an old man with a slow walk
He's got a big hat and a small talk
There's just a stump where a finger was
His eyes are blurred and his ears go buzz
He asks for nothin' and what he gets -
Cold beer now and then and cigarettes
The world moved on and he let it go
A lot has happened that he don't know
Ah but, my friend, he was hell on wheels -
And I don't mean on automobiles
He stayed in the saddle come what might
Made no difference if day or night
He fought the storms that crippled the Plain
Then laughed it off and did it again
In bar room brawls he could hold his own
'Til others learned to leave him alone
And so he lived a life that's past
But he still smiles as he's fadin' fast
So if you see him, cut him some slack -
He loved a world that ain't comin' back
