Just a Taste
JUST A TASTE
I remember drinking ice cold water from mountain streams
Hiking in the warm sunlight.
The sound of the wind blowing through the trees
And the shadows as clouds move fast overhead.
Aching muscles and sunburnt skin
A fire burning at night
Flames flickering under the starlight.
A sleeping bag rolled out on the sand and a jacket as a pillow
Your best friend at your side
And your dog at your feet.
The gleaming eyes of a wild cat watching from high above in the trees
Coffee in a steel mug warmed on the coals of the fire.
Those were the days of freedom and youth
A gift given from God
Just a little taste of heaven on earth.
