Just a Couple of Laughs
he tried to cover his pain, with just a couple laughs
he said it is the same, why waste time being sad
i saw it in his eyes, but he never really knew
i loved him like a brother, but he never thought it true
sometimes you have to feel pain, and let it etch itself into your face
sometimes you cant cover it, beneath the light of day
he was dieing slowly on the inside, drinking away his days
he hid the liqure bottle, but he couldnt stay away
a brown paper bag covered it to keep his hands from cold
somedays he felt as if the bag was covering his face of old
twenty some odd years, yet he felt older by the day
and cried himself to sleep, every night he alone would lay
he tried to cover his pain, but i saw through his laughs
the days i spent talking to him, id never take them back
now if only he would take the time to just simply save himself
for i couldnt do it and neither can anyone else
the pain thats in his heart, one day it will fade
but only if he finds his path, each night at the end of day
so goodbye my friend i call, into the whispering wind
ill see you sometime soon, but until we meet again
stay safe and warm at night, and put away the gin
i hope you can save yourself, i truly do my friend
