Johnny Rebel

His name it's Johnny Rebel You may have heard it said That Angels weep In their pious sleep At the foot of Johnnies bed Don't you lay with him girl Just like Adam and Eve His truth doesn't trust But the shackles of lust His only one wish to deceive chorus If you follow him down to the river, sweet Jane Don't be foolish and go rushing in Heed not of your heart, but your head These words I say Bid him on his way Where Angels are fearing to tread Old Judas was a novice Just a saintly altar boy Compared to Johnny His treachery Left little to enjoy He'll share with you his beating heart 'Cos baby, that's all that he'll own But he'll look for it back It's cold and it's black And it's only yours for the loan chorus If you follow him down to the river, sweet Jane Don't be foolish and go rushing in Heed not of your heart, but your head These words I say Bid him on his way Where Angels are fearing to tread In this garden of Eden Where no stone stays un-turned No saints or sinners Losers or winners Gain from the lessons they've learned He's learned to feed their hunger And to steal immortal souls Take the righteous light From their hallowed sight And leave tear-stained begging bowls
