Jesus Lover of My Soul
The pastor said,
Depart yee sinner from my sight,
And I… I ran away in fright,
Haaa!! You should have seen my flight,
The pastor said in hells fire I’d be burnt
So I ran with fear and pain in my heart.
The nun said,
“You are a sore in the lord’s eyes,
A dirty blight on righteousness,
A harlot lifting her skirts for every scoundrel you come across
Cavorting with the non believers.”
So I ran and on my back, I carried my cross.
The youth pastor said,
“ We have filth in this clean place,
And in this place for swines there is no space,
If you cannot keep pace leave the race,”
So I ran away from there to save face.
The church elder said,
“ Thieves, harlots, scoundrels belong to the devil,
The poor are vile and steal from god and they cannot desist from evil
And we who are clean their dirty linen we will reveal,”
So I ran away from it all.
They’d said it all,
I could feel their fingers poking into my back,
Feel their harsh stares rip through my heart
From inside I was bleeding, my heart crying
I had no more strength to run or fight.
I sat alone,
Deserted and afraid
Then I remembered of a man,
A man who loved unconditionally… even people like me
One who came to save and not to destroy
And so I gathered my little strength and to Him I stumbled.
I stumbled towards Him,
My burdens, my fears, my sins, my past
Secured and nailed to my back, a poster picture of all that was bad,
“Would He accept me this son of God? “I worried,
A voice inside me said,” ran the other way,” but I was tired I needed rest, I needed Him,
So to Him I stumbled.
To Him I stumbled,
Death stood beside me praying He would cast me aside,
But He opened up His arms and into them I fell,
All my burdens … lifted, my sins … erased,
He held no grudges I was free and so with Him I stayed.
With Him I stayed,
Jesus the son of God,
In him there was and is no condemnation,
My chains are gone my loads are lifted
Am still with Him in whom I trust.
