Lake Garda from the top of Mount Baldo

My wife and I share a passion for travelling, the world we love to see We travelled through France and Switzerland and we're now in Italy Day one was a trip in a cable car to the summit of Mount Baldo The views from the top were amazing of Lake Garda down below. Day two we visited Verona, a city of great architectural beauty And it's where Shakespeare was inspired by Juliets famous balcony We saw great works of art showing statues, of Roman mythology Churches now outnumber them after their conversion to Christianity. Day three we went on a speed boat trip on the beautiful Lake Garda Then had a walk around the town of Sirmoine, and ate some tasty pizza Of course the day would not be complete without tasting some gelato Every flavour you can think of, it's ice cream in case you didn't know. On the fourth day we went to Venice and we were pleasantly surprised St Marks Square, Rialto Bridge, Doges Palace and The Bridge of Sighs Lots of narrow passageways that leads to many a little square Words alone can't convey its appeal you really have to be there. On the fifth and last day a scenic trip up the Dolomite mountains We saw scenic alpine images and drove through villages with fountains Swiss style chalets dotted the hillsides that added to its great charm Scenes of utmost tranquillity that gives you a feeling of inner calm. Day six and its time to head back home, and we travelled through the night Through Switzerland then Calais in France, to catch the ferry at first light Then just two more coaches that will take us nearer to our home My wife is looking at brochures for next year, to see where else we can roam. Tom, my native Italian wife was reading this with me. We love Italy and visit periodically. Your descriptions are flattering and pleasant. Sounds like you take your time and don't try to do too much. It's always an adventure there no matter what you do there!

Thank you very much Duke, we had an amazing time and really enjoyed it. It's our second time to Venice though, a few years ago we stopped in Murano for a few days. Tom

Hi Tom, So sorry to hear about your Mother in law, hope she recovers soon. We are not well up here as Christine and I caught covid when on holiday at Strathpeffer a few weeks ago but today is our 5th day of isolation so should get out tomorrow as feeling stronger each day. Blessings always,Gordon

Such a beautiful piece on your European travels Tom, I've so many happy memories of Lake Garda many years ago and also a day in Venice which was unforgettable. Last night I was watching a documentary on channel5 called from Paris to Rome and it was great to see the wonder of Venice again. Blessings always,Gordon

An amazing trip, Tom, and thanks for the poetic journey. I lived in New Zealand for 36 years, it has everything for the traveller, a place one should see once in a lifetime.

When children are grown up and flown to different places, the best way for the aging couple to be enriched and entertained is to go travelling to places of their choice. Glad you enjoyed your trip and are back. Welcome back, dear Tom. A beautiful chest of memoirs! Congratulations on your POTD. I too have been travelling for three four days.

Great poem that does justice to a beautiful country. My grandfather was from Italy and I recently returned there to find out more about my roots. The scenery, the food - what was not to like? I agree with you Tom about travelling while you can. There is so much out there. Cheers - Gary

Thank you very much for your Gershon, amazing country, when we were in Verona we passed an archaeological dig where they had found Roman baths, quite amazing to see. Saw Juliets balcony but she wasn't around lol. Tom
