It Is Quiet Tonight

It is quiet tonight. The only sound is coming from the soft murmur of the television set. I don't know why I don't just put it on mute. I don't want to hear what they have to say, but I guess it is better than the sound of silence which is deafening. It hurts my ears, it hurts my heart. Yesterday I was happy, but that was before, before I stepped into the dark abyss. I think I may have been pulled in by the apathy of death. Death has such long arms. I won't ask why, I know everyone must die. But you left on a happy day, a day we were making plans, and I had hope, hope that we still had time, time to share those plans. You made me laugh until I cried that day, and then death swooped in and took it all away. It is so quiet tonight. © Connie Marcum Wong 8-27-16 August 10, 2016 Poem of the Day

You have written a deeply emotional poem my friend. Sadly, one that too many of us can identify with. Death, the one Thing that can only be defeated by one way. And its by faith, not science OR ANY OTHER MAN CREATION... Adding this gem too my fav list and congratulating you on writing such a gem.

I understand that Andrea. Maybe writing about your illness will be cathartic. Look at this sad poem....I sure wasn't expecting so many to like this poem. I am amazed at the reaction. Thank you Andrea. I hope you feel better soon. Love, Connie

To write as you have done so here requires the writer to have truly experienced those actual emotions at some point in their life - Usually some traumatic experience that has a deeply nested and profound effect! Quite often this does not manifest itself in our everyday lives, we hide it and soldier on - for that is life...but we never forget. Your best ever poem, Connie Marcum Wong - I salute you!! Your friend always. :) john

It has got such a strong response because...Emotively, and also in lots of other subtle little ways - it is quite brilliant! Sometimes, perhaps, on extremely rare occasions, maybe we do not really appreciate the impact of what we, at the time, intentionally write. This person you so devoutly mention here has now been resurrected by the power of your pen! For surely that is all we can hope for: That someone somewhere, when we are finally gone, remembers us...albeit briefly, some days sometime. Sleep tight, Connie. Your friend always. :) john

Thank you so much John. I have been there, you are right. But I am not there now. It doesn't take much to trigger a memory that can take you right back to that sad moment. I cant believe the response this sad poem has gotten. Many Blessings my friend. ; )
