Invisible Kid
Invisible Kid
Invisible kid that’s what you were called.
Locked in your room wasn’t punishment at all.
Alone to explore your dreams and read stories,
Alone safe from harm to be whoever you wished.
Fantasies and storytelling for your teddy bears.
Role playing and performing in front of the mirror,
each morning.
Play time with her friends was often,
never rare for the invisible one.
Together, they were little girls fixing
their hair while singing or twirling around
playing dress-up.
But this invisible girl floats alone in her room too much.
All alone and she seems quite happy.
Really, she’s just fading away.
Hiding herself from the violence and scary things
that loom beyond the door.
Afraid of the death scenes,
that might play out any moment.
Oh what a quiet girl she is in her room.
So calm floating around with files of
imaginary things to ponder.
Round and round in herself.
Round and round locked in her brain.
Away from the pain and shame
of her violent and desolate world.
Unplugging from all,
so the fear disappears.
All alone, she stayed in her room.
Suspicious of anyone’s touch,
So independent, she didn’t need a crutch.
Now a grown woman,
when will she come out and share herself
with the world?
