Introduction To Indoctrination

Its forty years now since that first day, I remember still the tears that dropped from my cheeks as my mother’s hand unclasped mine, breaking the bond I’d known from birth, handing me over as though I were a piece of lost property, Miss Pringle was very kind, and I’m sure understanding, but she was only a substitute, someone fitting in between nine ‘o’clock and quarter to four five days a week. But what of the freedom? I’d known for the first five years of my life, this institution was taking it all away, two times tables, abc’s, banging blocks into different shaped holes. “Yes innocence and freedom had gone” Gone, forever! © Harry J Horsman 1987

oh wow, I have hit upon a new one for me, and only after a few clicks! well, Harry, this title was sure a tricky one. I would never have guessed this on to be about kindergarten or first grade. But when I think of it, this is sure a fitting title. I enjoyed this walk of yours down memory lane. Great poem. It seems to me like activity here is dying down. What do you think? I only have three comments since last night. Have a lovely day. Andrea

Sorry to say but sometimes it works that way, Harry. We never know what life has in store for us until it is near over. Then we look back and say "If I'd only known." Keep up the good work, God Bless, Cile
