Intermittent Rain

INTERMITTENT RAIN Intermittent rain, has put my garden out of play To jumping fleas and bugs I keep out of the fray The rain softens the soil, making lifting roots OK Watching at the window, ready to make my play Timing is everything, before the earth dries hard Out with the gardening tools, I play my ace card Soil just crumbles away, from those strong roots Where in dry soil weeds clasp on like little brutes Fingers dallying away at the tender gentle shoots The weeding ensured where the soil is very loose Nothing better than a clear dampen flower border Where if only for a day it's nice to see some order Indiana Shaw . . .

I riddle the soil, Harry, and the compost too, and add a little bit of sand to stop the soil from clumping, makes for an easier ride getting the little blighters out . . . ; )

Simply beautiful, Indiana, from a garden lover. I love to get my hands in the dirt, too.

It's a never ending job, Milt's, but, worth it in the end, that day of glory of no weeds, a quick photo shoot to reminisce on, because as soon as your back is turned, grrrrr, their back, . . . ; )

One day of glory, then it rains, and whilst it's drying, up pops another weed, while they young it's fun, miss one until the next year, and it's there laughing at you, while you stand there and glare, ha, ha, ha . . .

I enjoyed your beautiful couplets about gardening. We are in a drought and can only water once a week! Enjoy your plants.

Drought, or no drought, darn weeds have a canny knack of surviving, whereas the flowers just wilt and die, it's enough to make you cry . . . : /
