Inner Child

Oh my sweet inner child I hear your sorrowful cries Of the memories that haunt you Every day and night Oh my sad inner child You have been treated so unjustly But you do not seek retribution You only seek to forget Oh my poor inner child The sorrows that haunt you And make you scream and cry out Are scary and daunting Oh my pitiful inner child You mourn the childhood you were robbed of Your tears are a witness To the scars on your heart that were meant to love I'm still looking for healing for us my dear The time hasn't passed It's not too late, I'm still a teen. I can get my innocence back Right? But oh my sweet inner child Remember all the good times That made being alive worthwhile And shone a beam of light in our dark existence It wasn't so bad Our moments weren't always sad So just dwell on all the times That made you smile. My lovely lonely inner child
