Inhaling the Sea

Inward I look, searching Never quite able to touch what I seek. Hearing a voice in the distance Alight with fresh passion I resume hunting; Longing to possess Invigorated by mere sight alone Nothing is comparable to Ghosts, and the spirit of yesterday. There, I said it! Hearing my own voice speak Excruciating, the sound of your name. So many years ago, I lost you in battle. Everywhere, in every life, I suffer As I long to hold you, now and evermore. © 2014 CM Davidson

This one was very unique. Though no mention is made of the sea, i surmised that the person who died may have died in a battle at sea? Or the person is living near the sea and always wandering out into the fog hearing the ghost of his past. Very interesting one. Congrats for your win in my contest.

For me, it was the effect of the sound of the sea lapping at a rocky shore, and the memories that come back when lulled by its sound. Often those memories have nothing to do with our surroundings. This poem came to fruition by inhaling the salty scent of the sea, closing my eyes and letting the memories flow. Thank you for creating such an inspiring contest!
