In Your Lifetime

In your lifetime you will not escape without doing at least one good deed, No matter how much your greed. To some one else your mere existence Will be a positive influence You will be a hero to more than just your Mum, Even if you are a bum. Your words of wisdom will reach a listening ear, Even if you don't care. Even one act of kindness freely given, Will be felt in heaven. And despite your worst efforts here Someone will bestow love on you here. Even if you mostly only shout, The laughter trapped inside of you will find a way out. And you will put on at least one good show, Though you don't think so. You will lead someone out of the night Into the light, You will give someone a reason to smile, Even if you feel not worthwhile. Your trust will be given out, even where there is doubt. And your advice will be taken Even if you are faking. You will discover a belief in something, No matter what you are thinking. A belief in yourself could be that something, That would stop you sinking is what I am thinking.

"your mere existence Will be a positive influence" This line represents me because someone told me the same words, and I just can't imagine how we are able to be affective even without doing anything, just being there is enough for them. Great words and values here.. Keep it up!

Thank you John. I was and am passionate about this piece. I think most of us don't appreciate ourselves enough and don't always know about the good people see in us. Best regards David in NZ

Thanks. that poem has been there in raw form for a while. The truths in it affected my life. I t is too easy to get trapped into assuming others think the worst of us. Having been an early childhood teacher for thirty years it is validated by seeing who the children actually love to bits. Even worst teachers changed one child's life for better. As I say mere existence . . Thanks for comments David
