In Your Blue Eyes
In the hours that quickly passed,
I lay aside my fears to what I would succumb.
Reluctant and adamant from first to last
you swore no possibility of this outcome.
In somber shadows I made my way
forewarned and gracefully embracing
straining with effort to get through the day,
the hours and minutes lagged yet were racing.
I saw it briefly, right there in your blue eyes
and knew for sure, now would be my turn to cry.
I touched your hand and kissed your head
as i lay down next to you in the old bed
Wrapping an arm around your frail shoulders
and holding you close, there was no growing older
but for a single second of love once unmatched
I cradled the moment my love was dispatched.
