In the Stillness of the Night

In the stillness of the night, A rhythmic echo I can hear Where peaceful dreams take flight; A drum, drum, drumming in my ear. A rhythmic echo I can hear, A thump, thump, thumping in the hollow of my chest, A drum, drum, drumming in my ear, A pump, pump, pumping against my burdened breast. A thump, thump, thumping in the hollow of my chest, A tick, tick, ticking from the clock in the hall, A pump, pump, pumping against my burdened breast; I hear the lonely sounds, of a hoot owl’s call. A tick, tick, ticking from the clock in the hall, A thump, thump, thumping in the hollow of my chest, I hear the lonely sounds, of a hoot owl’s call A pump, pump, pumping against my burdened breast. A thump, thump, thumping in the hollow of my chest Where peaceful dreams take flight; A pump, pump, pumping against my burdened breast, In the stillness of the night. Paulette, you have a remarkable and brilliant way of words. Such a stunning picture that paints!!! Unquestionably an amazing piece of poetry... In the silence of the evening, especially if we are under a lot of pressure, we are able to pick out each and every little sound... The writing is just stunning...

This evokes both the quiet and the fear of night, I think, the repetitive beat of thump thumping and pump pumping is used for great effect, best wishes for the contest~

For sure, silence personifies all -- even the quiet itself becomes a sort of rhythmic echo shouting out hollowness. Well said. Mysterious.

The night is not as silent as we imagine it to be especially if we are under stress.
