My name is Yù míng Jade brightness, is what it means I’m a Praying Mantis, and we look like string beans I jump about the grass, to chew up flowers, leaves And stems of plants, between the trees It’s only these I eat, on insects I will pass I never tire, of living in the grass Twigs and leaves I’ll rest up on in my new Eden Of all the paths I came up on, I choose your lovely garden An evening serenade, a blusterous chirping song My wings are light and striking as I glide along Today I move on, but still the same regime I'll creep between the grass blades gently and so feminine I do the Praying Mantis pose it comes naturally It’s a yoga stance and they named it after me!

Good evening Anaya, do you know what's more fun than writing poetry? When you decide to spend an evening jumping from one poets comment to the next poem they wrote! I am very glad that one of your comments led me to this one! What a beautiful portrayal of the world's greatest Floral terrorist LOL. I thoroughly enjoy everything you write but this one in particular was very well done in my eyes! Warmly A.S.

So beautifully written Anaya. I have always watched this praying mantis with curiosity as a child. This curiosity, I retain even now. Unfortunately I see them very rarely . Your description of mantis, I enjoyed much ! All the Best dear friend !

Thank you, Valsa. They do seem special the way they fold their front legs giving them the appearance of praying.

As a vegetarian I can tell you she's a man eater all stomach and no heart, just don't tell her that! I think I'll settle for a brisk walk around the park, Robert

Heya Anaya, does Liturgusa algorei ring a bell, yep it’s a recently discovered praying mantis they named it after Al Gore, probably because of all his environmental work, I enjoyed your personification here, tending the garden as a mantis would, and a few nice Bruce Lee moves in the post script lol, cheers David

Big supporter of Jerry Brown, Jerry Brown and Linda! Browniscutus, found at his ranch. Scientists named it in his honor, amazing events keep showing us that anything is possible. [Meg Witman said, When I first came here in 1980, California was a great state]. Jerry Brown responded, Thank you Meg, I was Governor then!! He was the youngest and oldest governor of California. Thanks Robby

They just named a beetle after Governor Brown, they found a beetle never seen before on the ex-governor's property, they named it Brownisticus!

They are fragile yet persistent to keep going. We have two colors on the islands. The green and brownish. Anywho, your poem is absolutely beautiful, and I’m considering trying out this post when I feel much better. Good luck in the contest. ~ Fin :)

I love these insects. I once saw a pray mantis take on a bee and win. The only grisly thing about them is their mating ritual. Their ,camouflage resembling flowers or leaves are stunning. I like your tribute to them, Anaya

Suzette, thank you for your visit. They’ll eat anything they can catch, even if it is their own size, and that means they eat each other, too. Like the one above. The huge eyes mounted on a triangle head make ‘em look like the classic alien. My protagonist, she is a vegetarian, like the Grasshopper. Sexual cannibalism, weird, the female eats the male after mating. ;)
