In My Darkest Hours
In my darkest hours
I remember you -
the boyish face,
the easy grit
that oozed with life;
quick with a joke
yet slow to anger,
blessed with a wit,
a grin stretching
from wall to wall;
yesterday you said hello
just like friends always do;
if only I had a way of telling
that today you won't be here
anymore;
life, such a crazy joke!
purposeless, senseless,
here today, gone tomorrow;
a sudden shift in the wind
then all come to an end;
I remember you, brother,
thoughts spilling from the brain
while tears fall down like rain -
numbed, stunned, unbelieving,
laughing at the absurdity of it all.
